18 MAMIE M. KING

MILLINOCKET - Mamie M. (Bernier) King, 88, passed away peacefully at home May 7, 2003. Mamie was born in Fort Kent on May 27, 1914, the daughter of Isabelle (Charette) and Dumas Bernier. She worked for many years as a cook at the Abol logging camps. After she raised her family, she did laundry for the Great Northern Paper First Aid. She retired in 1998 at age 84 from Great Northern Paper as their oldest employee. Mamie was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Leo V. King; her eldest son, Leo Jr., and five children at birth. Mamie is survived by her children, June Pineau and husband, Leonard, of Sherman, Jackie Heiser and husband, Dutch, of East Holden, Rene King and wife, Lorena, Judy Ingersoll and her fianc?, David Gordon, all of Millinocket, John King of Bangor, James King and wife, Cathy, of East Millinocket; her sisters, Irene Thibodeau and Juliette Duprey, both of East Millinocket; and her brother, Hubert "Gil" Voisine and wife, Theresa, of Millinocket. The greatest joy of Mamie's life was her 15 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. All were very special to her. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, and a very special friend and cousin, Alma Cyr. In their later years, they spent more time talking on the phone than teenagers. Mamie always had treats for all her granddogs. Mamie was always a hard worker, a trait she passed on to all her children, and she took great pride in her gardens which she would tend endlessly. She was proud to be the final person to leave Skunk Hollow. Her family was her greatest joy. She took great pride in all they accomplished, whether great or small. She was a great cook and was always ready to set an extra plate at the table. Friends may call at R. L. Bouchard Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, May 11. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2003, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church. Burial will be in Millinocket Cemetery. If friends wish, gifts in her memory may be made to the Katahdin Area Support Group, 10 Field St., Millinocket 04462. For online register, please visit www.bouchardfh.com.

121 Note provided by Russ Varcoe:

The parents of Mary Elizabeth Collins decided to send her to the U.S. so she could have a better life to live with her mother's sister, Rachel Costello, who was the housekeeper for the parish priest at Ste Luce parish in Frenchville, Maine. She was originally scheduled to come aboard the Titanic but she was so upset at leaving home and going so far away that she was booked on the Laconia which arrived later in Boston. An uncle who worked for the railroad out of Chatham, New York met her on her arrival and put her on a train bound for Northern Maine.

We have discovered that there seems to be another Thiembronne family, distinct from the Bournrl de Thiembronne family, living in the same time and place. 542 Errata in the Roy Family Reunion Genealogy Book on page 58, No 828 erroneously shows Hortense Arthemise Roy married to Joseph Nazaire Gervais dit Talbot. According to John Waugh the marriage show be between Joseph Gervais and Marie Delina Roy, Hortemise's sister.

The Roy Family Reunion book shows their daughter Marie Rose Gervais married Joseph Caron on 14 Jan 1884. I have removed the marriage between Hortense and Joseph Gervais. I have added Marie Delina, with a note that Marie Delina and Marie might be the same person, even though Marie Roy's baptismal entry in the St Louis of Kamouraska parish register showed her name simply as Marie, and have added the marriage to Marie Delina.

John's substantiating information came from the Upper Ste John Valley web site page on Early Marriages at Ste-Luce Church, Frenchville, Maine (1843-1850)
at http://www.upperstjohn.com/aroostook/stelucemarriages.htm shows the following information:

ROY-DESJARDINS, Marie Delina (Raphael ROY-DESJARDINS / Marie-Louise
CARON) Joseph TALBOT m. 30 Sep 1844

TALBOT, Joseph (François TALBOT / Euphrosine DESCHÊNES) Marie Delina
ROY-DESJARDINS m. 30 Sep 1844

The above information, which was extracted from the Dictionnaire Genealogique du Madawaska.
